Cedar Rock Falls These next falls can be accessed from the State Fish Hatchery & Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. Head north on 276 from the Ranger Station a little less than 4 miles and take a left on FR475. Follow this for about a mile and turn into the hatchery on the left before the road turns to gravel. Both falls that I have been to are accessed from the Cat Gap Trail. To get to the trail head, stand in front of the info center, look to your left and you will see a gated road. Cross the gate and the Cat Gap Trail is just a few yards up on the right.
The trail to the 1st falls, Cedar Rock Falls, is a fairly easy hike, just under a mile. Follow the orange blazes. The hardest part is finding the little side trail that goes to the falls. At just under a mile, you will notice some faint side Trails to the left heading down towards Cedar Rock Creek. The 1st ones come out below the falls and you have to scramble up creek, but the one you want is the most obvious and heads off the main trail at a 'V'. If you get to a stake that indicates a trail split and a camp site on the left, you have gone too far. The trail follows the ridge down and comes out at the ledge to the right of the waterfall. Even though the waterfall is small, the setting is beautiful with moss on the surrounding rocks and boulders. Be careful if you head out on the boulders, they will be slippery!
